Why Giving Matters to the Restoration of the Fallsvale Old Schoolhouse, and How Community Support Makes It Possible

Why Giving Matters to the Restoration of the Fallsvale Old Schoolhouse, and How You Can Help

We want to be clear about how giving works, why this step comes first, and how supporters can choose the option that fits them best.

This phase of the project is focused on removing the asbestos insulation that, if not done first, prevents any restoration from moving forward. The original estimate for this work was around $40,000, but it is outdated. Because costs have changed and final requirements are not yet fully defined, we are planning responsibly by working toward a $100,000 goal. This allows the work to be completed once it begins, rather than stopping mid-process.

The asbestos removal must be completed by a licensed contractor approved by the Redlands Unified School District. We do not select the contractor ourselves, and no other work can be done until this requirement is met.

If funds remain after the asbestos removal is completed, they will be applied to the next most urgent need, repairing the roof. The roof is currently contributing to additional interior damage, but that work cannot be done until the asbestos removal is completed.

Ways to Give, and the Level of Support We’re Inviting

Some supporters prefer to give in ways that avoid transaction fees. Zelle is a good option for that, since it allows people to send support directly from their bank. Zelle does not reliably support automated recurring payments, so most people who use it choose to give manually once a month. In some cases, individual banks allow users to set up automatic payments through their own banking app, but availability varies.

For those who prefer fully automated recurring giving, we also offer an online option. This method includes standard processing fees charged by the payment provider. Supporters who want their full ten dollars a month to support the project often choose to add a couple of extra dollars to their monthly gift so processing costs are covered and the intended amount still goes directly to the project's work.

There is no single right way to give. What matters is choosing the option that fits your values and your life, and participating in a way that is clear, comfortable, and sustainable.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, providing clear and accessible ways for the public to support the work is part of responsible stewardship. Our goal is transparency, accountability, and shared participation.
