Q: How did Redlands Unified come to own the Fallsvale Schoolhouse?
The Fallsvale Schoolhouse did not begin as part of a large district. It was established, built, and supported by members of the local community when Fallsvale operated as its own school district.
At that time, the land and the school itself were part of a locally governed system shaped by the people who lived there.
When California transitioned away from small, independent school districts, Fallsvale’s assets were absorbed into what is now the Redlands Unified School District, and the property came under its ownership.
The building remained, but local control did not.
This is why the schoolhouse still stands today, but without a clear path forward for restoration.
